At this point it’s more a foregone conclusion than assumption that the Bears will be in search of an offensive mind to develop quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, which has made DeFilippo a favorite among fans and makes him a great option for the Bears.
DeFilippo, while he’s the QB coach, has been credited with doing the most when it comes to molding Carson Wentz into the quarterback he was this season. He’s a smart offensive mind that commands respect from players. There have been glowing reviews from around the league that tout DeFilippo as perhaps being the next Sean McVay. DeFilippo could work wonders with Trubisky, whom the Bears are hanging their franchise on.
It also certainly doesn’t hurt that Trubisky and Wentz are repped by the same firm. Word is the two young QBs are pretty close and even workout together during the offseason. Trubisky has seen how Wentz has made that leap from Year 1 to Year 2, which should make Flip an intriguing guy.
Thus far the Bears have interviewed five candidates, including Flip, Josh McDaniels, Pat Shurmur, Vic Fangio, and George Edwards.
The Bears will interview Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy on Sunday.
